Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to perform at concert

SALIDA, Calif. (AP) — Officials with a California nonprofit group say former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has agreed to play the piano at a benefit concert to raise funds for a local school.

The Salida Performing Arts Foundation says the concert at a private residence March 27 will also include cellist Michael Reynolds and tenor Dennis McNeil.

Tickets cost $500 a person, or $5,000 for a table of eight.

John Mayer puts on free concert for SC fans (AP)

COLUMBIA, S.C. – John Mayer fans have been huddling outside the South Carolina venue where the rocker has been rehearsing for his upcoming tour, hoping to get a glimpse of him.

For some lucky fans, that wait has paid off. For two hours Tuesday night, Mayer put on a free show for University of South Carolina students, giving back to the loyal fans who have camped out in downtown Columbia during his practice sessions.

50 Fans Arrested At AC/DC ConcertAC/DC’s Saturday night show in New Zealand was thrown into chaos after scores of revelers were arrested. The group was performing at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, but the event was marred when nine fans were taken into custody during the concert, while another six were evicted for unruly behavior.

In total, 50 people were arrested for drunk and disorderly behavior, while six ambulances were called to the venue to deal with alcohol or drug-related issues.

Diddy, Queen Latifah to host BET concert for Haiti

NEW YORK (AP) — Sean “Diddy” Combs, Queen Latifah and Pharrell are set to host a two-hour concert and telethon to benefit Haiti on Feb. 5.

Wyclef Jean, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne will perform.

The concert is titled “SOS Saving OurSelves — Help for Haiti.” It will be held at the American Airlines Arena in Miami and will air live on BET, MTV, VH1 and Centric at 8 p.m. EST.

Justin Biebers Concert Security Stepped UpSecurity has been stepped up for Justin Bieber’s Valentine’s Day concert in Los Angeles, amid fears the singer’s over-enthusiastic young fans will cause chaos.

Security personnel canceled an album signing with Usher’s young protégé in New York City in November, when they deemed it too dangerous to bring Bieber out as guards were unable to keep the screaming teens under control.

Jimmy Page To Headline Peace Concert In ChinaFormer Led Zeppelin star Jimmy Page will be among the headliners at the inaugural Show of Peace Concert in Beijing, China in April.

The guitar great will join Prince, Green Day, Beyonce Knowles, Coldplay and Justin Timberlake, among others, for the big show at the Bird’s Nest stadium, where he performed with Leona Lewis during the finale of the last Olympic Games in 2008.

The concert marks the 30th anniversary of the cultural exchange agreement between the U.S. and China.

Guatemalan singer fires gun at concert (AP)

GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemalan police say they have arrested a singer who fired a gun at a concert after he was told to get off the stage before playing. No one was hurt.

Police spokesman Sergio Garcia says Diego Lopez of the band Santa Cecilia fired eight shots in the air and at the stage Saturday night at a concert in the city of Quetzaltenango.

Garcia says Lopez was angry that the promoters asked his Guatemalan band

Gallstones force Eric Clapton to nix NYC concert

NEW YORK (AP) — Eric Clapton has pulled out of this week’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert in New York after undergoing gallstone surgery.

Kristen Foster, a publicist for the guitarist, said Tuesday that Clapton was doing well and recuperating with his family in England.

The hall says Jeff Beck will replace the 64-year-old guitarist for Friday night’s show at Madison Square Garden.
