Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher has leaped to the defense of controversial MTV Video Music Award host Russell Brand, accusing his American critics of having double standards.

Brand attacked President George W. Bush during his stint onstage at the Los Angeles bash, prompting outrage from viewers - many of whom had never heard of the British funnyman.

Hip-hop star Lil Wayne is to release a documentary charting his rise to fame. The “Lollipop” hitmaker has filmed The Nino Brown Story, which chronicles his life so far and promises to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse into the star’s private life.

The title for the film comes from the 1991 classic film New Jack City - a reference to the building owned by Nino Brown, the character played by Wesley Snipes.

Country duo Sugarland have stunned the U.S. album charts by ending Miley Cyrus’ brief reign at number one. Despite selling less than half the albums they shifted when they debuted at two last week, the pair switches places with Cyrus, who beat them to the top seven days ago.

The Mamma Mia! soundtrack, Kid Rock’s Rock N Roll Jesus and Tha Carter III by Lil Wayne all remain at numbers three, four and five respectively on the new Billboard 200 countdown.

U2 rocker Bono has hailed guitarist The Edge as a “genius” - comparing his bandmate to famous artist Vincent Van Gogh.

The Irish star made the comments during a response to a positive Rolling Stone magazine review about the reissue of U2’s Boy album. And while Bono admires the band’s bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen, Jr., he admits The Edge - real name David Evans - is the true mastermind of the group.

R&B star Usher has re-hired his mother as his manager after his latest album failed to live up to expectations.

The singer ended his 15-year professional relationship with Jonnetta Patton and her JPat Record Label just days before Mother’s Day. The 29-year-old replaced Patton with managing mogul Benny Medina - responsible for the careers of heavyweights such as Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez.
