Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - ‘Cop Out,’ ‘The Crazies’ & More

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - Cop Out, The Crazies & MoreFriday I caught Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese’s latest collaboration “Shutter Island.” I was not blown away by it, but I did not think it was a terrible movie either. Since I have not read the novel on which it is based, I’m at a bit of a disadvantage to comment on whether it was a faithful adaptation; however as a thriller it kept me guessing for most of the film.

It does a good job of planting the seeds of doubt and conspiracy with you, as you start to piece together (more…)

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - ‘Dear John,’ ‘From Paris With Love,’ ‘Frozen’

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - Dear John, From Paris With Love, FrozenI returned to the movies last week to see Mel Gibson’s thriller “Edge of Darkness.” A large part of me was anxious to see it since I knew Gibson plays a Boston cop whose daughter is murdered in front of him. As Gibson’s character, Detective Thomas Craven, launches his own investigation into his daughter’s untimely demise, he starts unraveling threads to a conspiracy involving big business and government in Massachusetts.

While this sounds like a promising plot that could be quite (more…)

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - ‘The White Ribbon,’ & More

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - The White Ribbon, & MoreLast Monday I caught “Sherlock Holmes” in the theater, which turned out to be a very entertaining movie. Guy Ritchie presents a fresh take on Sherlock Holmes, portraying him as more of a cocky savant than a refined gentleman, but with Robert Downey Jr. playing Holmes, it works like a charm.

Jude Law plays a great Watson to Downey’s Holmes, as a level headed roommate who makes the detective seem like an eccentric shut-in. Stylistically the film recreates Victorian England quite (more…)

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - ‘Old Dogs,’ ‘The Road’ & More

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - Old Dogs, The Road & MoreIn a change of pace, I have already seen one of the week’s upcoming movies ahead of time: “Ninja Assassin.” As per my expectations, the film places a lesser emphasis on plot and a higher one on intense action sequences.

While the plot isn’t horrendous, many of its aspects are not as well developed as they should have been. The quality of the action starts to make up this, but it’s not enough to save the film.

“Ninja Assassin” is a mediocre movie at best. My opinion (more…)
